Under the patronage:

Adria Section of the Combustion Institute, under the auspices of the Federation of the European Sections of the Combustion Institute, organized the 8th European Combustion Meeting (ECM 2017), that took place between April 18 and 21, 2017 in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The ECM 2017 followed the tradition and the format established by previous ECM meetings:

ECM 2003 – Orleans, France
ECM 2005 – Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium
ECM 2007 – Chania, Greece
ECM 2009 – Vienna, Austria,
ECM 2011 – Cardiff, UK,
ECM 2013 – Lund, Sweden,
ECM 2015 – Budapest, Hungary

and the format established by those meetings,

The main objective of ECM 2017 was to bring together the researchers, scientists, engineers and students to exchange and share their experiences, new ideas, and research results about all aspects of combustion science and technology. ECM 2017 provided the opportunity for academic and industrial combustion experts to meet and discuss on all aspects of combustion, particularly those related to the following topics:

  • fundamental physical and chemical aspects of traditional and novel fuel sources;
  • reaction kinetics of combustion;
  • laminar and turbulent flames;
  • combustion emissions, pollutants, soot and particulates;
  • droplet and spray combustion;
  • IC engine combustion;
  • gas turbine combustion;
  • solid fuels combustion;
  • waste combustion;
  • oxy-fuel combustion;
  • stationary combustion systems and environmental impact;
  • detonations, fires and explosions;
  • combustion diagnostics;
  • new concepts in combustion technology.

The ECM 2017 gathered together an impressive number of 537 participants (of that 198 were students) from 38 countries. The organizers thank the contributions of the five invited speakers of the ECM 2017, and the support of the six sponsors. In total, 455 posters were presented at the ECM 2017 in 5 poster sessions and 454 proceedings papers were submitted. The share of the participating countries (according to the affiliations) is shown in the following figure.

This website was used to communicate the latest news before and during the conference. It has now been converted into a permanent repository, where several important pieces of information can be found, such as the programme, the slides of the invited lectures, the list of posters, a summary of the topics of the posters and, last but not least, the conference photos.

The organizers hope that ECM 2017 was a memorable event for all participants.

Sincerely yours,

Neven Duić (Chair of ECM 2017)
Milan Vujanović (Co-Chair of ECM 2017)
